Context

Straightt sells data center space. To sell different parts of space they are developing a configurator. This allows customers to organise and arrange their own plot of the data center without interferance of straightt. The aim of this project is to convince the board members that good design will make a positive impact in the effiency of storage space. The challenge for this concept was to keep practicalilty and usability in mind while at the same time leaving a visual impression with the board members.

Design

A data center is quickly tied to high tech and futuristic aspects. I wanted to explore both those for the conceptualisation of the product. The configurator needed to resemble the floorpan of the data center so clients can easily visualise what the real product will look like. A drag and drop solution was the best way of letting clients interact with the configurator and place the server racks. After placing the rack would be added to their cart to keep track of the space they bought.

Outcome

After presenting the concepts, the stakeholders were enthusiastic. Currently, a budget is being negotiated with the company and stakeholders to initiate any follow-up steps design and development of an actual configurator.
